This playlist provides ammunition for anyone who wishes to organize an 80s Invasion (or go it alone) on StreamingSountracks.com (SST) Smile

The obvious way to put 80s music in the Queue on SST can be done by simply going to the Requests search page for the Years 1980-1989, pick an album from the 7 or so pages that come up and then pick a greenie from that album.

What this "80s Invasion" list provides are recommendations for music and movies (and TV shows), that stick out in our minds as being especially 80s-ish. For the most part, if it's a song made in the 80s, it's on the list. In the case of instrumental music, it might be chosen simply based on it being done by an "80s artist" like Faltermeyer, Moroder, Tangerine Dream, etc. Or it could be a case where it's orchestral music from a major blockbuster from the 80s, like The Empire Strikes Back, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, etc. Or maybe a movie that became a cult classic.

Please be careful not to flood the SST queue with vocal tracks (from any year, not just the 80s). Most regular listeners do not come to SST for that kind of listening experience. An occasional song mixed in with the instrumental picks is fine. Try to keep your picks "balanced" when it comes to musical styles and genres.

A nice by-product of doing this will be finding (and REQUESTING) some songs (and very popular instrumentals) that already exist on SST that would also be great to have in the playlist here on 1980s.FM.

This list is still very much under construction.

I keep getting distracted after going through a year ... need to wrap up the decade on this little project.

For music that is instrumental, I'm usually looking for more electronic sounding stuff, not straight orchestral. But in some cases I break that rule because the movie itself was such a hit and considered an 80s classic, like "Back to the Future". So deciding what to highlight and what to ignore is turning out to be more difficult than I thought. What might seem like an "80s classic" to me may not be to someone else, and vice-versa.

Yea, definitely time to wrap this project up, especially if more of the 80's soundtracks in the Requests forum are added both here and at SST. Wink

I'd say, add it all, and let those who are sticklers for "That's not an 80s soundtrack I'd consider" eliminate them based on personal preference.

I do plan to get back to it, honest! Smile
Good point. I have been keeping one eye on the SST updates to see if they include anything in the years I've already looked at.

Actually, I'm thinking about trimming this down to just vocals or electronic-ish instrumentals, and leave pure orchestral stuff out altogether. There's no point in "adding it all" here because you can easily look it all up by year on SST.

Just did 1984, but I think I will take a different approach. I'm considering putting all the songs in one group; then non-orchestra in another group; then pure orchestra in last group. This will result in some SST albums being mentioned in multiple groups, but it will give a quick lookup for certain types of 80s music, with more attention paid to non-orchestral music.

Seems like a solid plan for those who are looking for a specific genre. Go for it! Cool
